Why 18 Holes?

Kajira dug this up for me. Ever wonder why there are 18 hole on a golf course, not 20 or 15?

During a discussion among the club's membership board at St. Andrews in 1858, a senior member pointed out that it takes exactly 18 shots to polish off a fifth of Scotch.

By limiting himself to only one shot of Scotch per hole, the Scot figured a round of golf was finished when the Scotch ran out.

Of course nowdays, it's when the beer or pot runs out for most. Me, it's when the Rum run s out! LOL

That's an interesting bit of trivia. Have you tried it out? I don't think I could walk, let alone play golf, after 18 shots of anything!

You know, I'm not a Scotch fan,,,, but getting a fifth of something and trying it might be interesting,,, under medical supervision and for science of course!
